In the middle of my mom's cancer treatment about thanksgiving... 

I created this image... Just a portrait of the two of us and hidden symbols of hope....

The salmon sunflower in hat represents the absorption of pollutants. 

While the daisy field is the "day's eye", watching over the innocence and sometimes an attribute of the Virgin.  The numbers that landed on her sternum where my mom's tumor grew: 6:17 - it could be time or a bible entree or something else... 

I looked in the bible first under Luke as that is my brothers name... and it said:

 " and he came down with them, and stood in the plain, 

and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of  people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;" 

I thought to myself ... oh how lucky we would be... if only...

Feb. 26th - last day of mom's radiation... they think they got it all... fingers crossed

This is a great example of an image created 

within the concept of the direct experience of being alive.

I have been asked to be apart of a collaborative community art show featuring local artists.  This show is to honor and celebrate our families, neighbors, and friends impacted by cancer.  All proceeds to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Happy Spring!

Wondering where all the new work is... As I have been faithfully posting new work about every 2 weeks or so...  Well, I have finally found a job in this crazy market. Just a part time pursuit to keep the studio supplied with materials and a little food in the belly. I am currently preparing for a show with 3 of my dearest friends Taylor, Brianna and Cyan. So, the studio is full of work in mid production.  We will be showing at the SideShow (formally Raw Oyster Gallery) in Portland, Oregon for the month of June.  Will take some photos as they finish up and post bios. As well as other pursues that I am working on for summer and fall.  Seems everything came together at once and trying to take in stride. Winter hibernation turns to Spring Shows. And so we turn another cycle. Happy Spring to you all.

I am still working on heading to the UK for the fall.  Please keep your fingers crossed for me.

February is a tough month for me. 

My Father passed away on the 19th three years ago.

 I remember all the Robin's returned that day.... 

they seemed to be everywhere

Flaming Skull - A Lesson not to be Forgotten

"This is based on a folk tale about a girl named Vasalisa and her journey back from the dark forest where she was sent to die by her step mother and sisters. In the forest she encounters the Hag Goddess who sees she has been blessed by her deceased mother. Disgusted by such goodness and to rid of the girl, the hag gives her a flaming skull to help her. (This story is a mix of Hansel and Gretel with Cinderella. But no Prince.) Once back home, the skull watches the step family and sees their murderous aspects then burns them to ashes.

This image is the moment on the journey she almost

 throws the skull away but it reassures her.

"Don't throw me away. Keep me. You'll see."

Seeing things by skull light is not forgiving: 

the old are elderly; the beautiful, lush; 

the silly, foolish; the unfaithful are infidels... 

yet things that are amazing become miracles. 

She is thinking of the pain it causes 

to know about self, 

others and 

the nature of the world.

The skull is thought to be the dome which houses a powerful remnant of the departed soul... one which, if asked, can call the entire spirit of the dead person back for a time in order to be consulted. Taking on the power to see and affect others is to receive the skull. Looking at one's life situations in this new light is finding the way back from the forest. She is then enabled to understand awesome and conscious power, her own and that of others. 

No more "But I'm afraid of him/her/it."

These images were created for the Children' Book Illustration Competition and exhibit sponsored by Minnesota Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and Minnesota Center for Book Arts following the May 2008 children's poetry contest.

Artists were invited to submit illustrations inspired by the five winning poems, to be considered for inclusion in REFLECTIONS, a juried exhibition at MCBa. 

Cross your fingers for these three. They have chances on getting in the show and then maybe being awarded prizes. I'll keep you updated. Sorry, but I am not able to post poems without permission from the authors. 

I have made an edition of 10 each plus 2 artist proofs. 

Anyone interested in one they are $95.00 plus shipping.
