These images were created for the Children' Book Illustration Competition and exhibit sponsored by Minnesota Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and Minnesota Center for Book Arts following the May 2008 children's poetry contest.

Artists were invited to submit illustrations inspired by the five winning poems, to be considered for inclusion in REFLECTIONS, a juried exhibition at MCBa. 

Cross your fingers for these three. They have chances on getting in the show and then maybe being awarded prizes. I'll keep you updated. Sorry, but I am not able to post poems without permission from the authors. 

I have made an edition of 10 each plus 2 artist proofs.

Well, I have been stuck in a 3 day snow storm.... Stew, pumpkin bread and little cards.... thankfulness for the electric ... not to mention at little time in the studio....

Guess, I am not the only one to add a little to my hot chocolate... 

At least we come by it honestly... 

Looks like ice storms are on the horizon batten the hatches and hold on to your bikes...

The sunflower in her hat represents the absorption pollutants. While the daisy field is the "day's eye", watching over the innocence and sometimes an attribute of the Virgin. Luke 6:17

The name "humuhumu", the first part of the Hawaiian word used for all tiggerfishes, may mean something close to "fit pieces together". This could refer to the way some of the species' color patterns resemble blocks of colors.

Some Native American Indians recognize the pig as a symbol of the abundance of daily life and believe that it teaches us to celebrate life and share it with others.

It light of new events, I have started to create a set of prayer cards.  Just little prayers, thoughts, nostalgia from each day. Reminders of good thoughts and wishes of happiness. Will post more as they come.

Leaping Formidable Rapids

This is a work in progress entry for the Artistic Alchemy Exhibition presented by Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center. Lets hope it makes it in. Alchemy is a centuries-old interdisciplinary practice that combines various sciences, philosophy and spiritual quest. Scholars sought to explore the true nature of nature while experimenting with ways to change one substance into another.

"Leaping Formidable Rapids"- In the Far East, the Carp symbolizes perseverance and success owning to its ability to leap formidable rapids. Its armorlike scales are linked to valor; In Japan it is a symbol of the Samurai and of courage. I feel the Samurai is the perfect alchemist.

Josh's Bee

This image is based on a conversation with a NJ friend after reading some articles on the epidemic of colony collapse disorder. (Alarming deaths of hives due to unknown reasons http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/22/opinion/22notebook.html)... Between the lines of text, I could see NJ Bee's giving attitude over poison plants.

This records a year of circle walking.
